Mediolanum International Funds Ltd. (MIFL) corporate social responsibility (CSR) is deeply embedded in our business ethos, aligning commercial success with social impact. Our strategy is not limited to philanthropy but extends to how the company engages with suppliers, partners, and the broader community.

With full funding from Fondazione Mediolanum, our CSR activities deliver a programme in partnership with the Liberties Community Project and Sporting Liberties, focused on creating a safe and inclusive environment for recreation and personal development for young people, alongside the construction of a much-needed sports facility at St James’s Primary School on Basin Lane, the area’s first public green space for organised sport in Dublin’s south-west inner city.

Liberties, Dublin 8, is an area facing some of Ireland’s toughest challenges around youth vulnerability. The project will not only deliver the area’s first multi-purpose playing pitch for organised sport, but also create long-term opportunities for children and teenagers through access to sport, mentoring and community engagement, fostering stability and reducing risks linked to social exclusion.

We will also continue to financially support Coolmine Therapeutic Community and Belvedere Youth Club, helping to expand Coolmine’s residential and community programmes for women and children in recovery from addiction, as well as Belvedere Youth Club early-intervention and youth development programmes in Dublin’s north inner city.

Coolmine believes that recovery is possible when individuals are given the right supports and tools, and we witness the transformative power of recovery every day. Driven by the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to overcome addiction and lead a fulfilled and productive life, Coolmine takes a therapeutic approach to recovery—addressing the socio-economic and environmental challenges that often lead to addiction.

Through education, compassionate care, and fostering a sense of purpose, Coolmine helps reintegrate vulnerable individuals into society. Many of our clients come from backgrounds of poverty, generational cycles of addiction, and disadvantage, often including homelessness, a lack of education, or time spent in prison. Coolmine is committed to breaking these cycles and offering a pathway to lasting recovery and renewed hope.

From their custom-built premises on Lower Buckingham Street (Dublin 1) they offer a range of services to young people aged between 7-24.

They help their members to build their self-confidence, become more resourceful, and find their voice. Belvedere Youth Club annually supports 400 members out of 3,500 young people in their catchment area.

Sporting Liberties is a not-for-profit organisation which has been campaigning for over a decade to address the severe lack of green and recreational space for children in Dublin’s South West Inner City (SWIC). In the SWIC and immediate surrounding area, home to 50,000 residents, including 8,500 children, there isn’t yet a single green area for organised sport. The area faces serious challenges such as drug-related crime, high suicide rates among young females, and a disproportionate number of residents in the criminal justice system.

Simultaneously, Sporting Liberties is also working to modernise existing space, and derelict buildings within the SWIC community to allow children to participate in sport, games, physical exercise, and cultural activities.  Sporting Liberties believes that providing sports facilities is vital to improving children's quality of life and deterring them from crime.
